Our Story
Who is Bernie?
This mini exchange library was created in memory of my mother, Marie Bernadette, who was affectionately known as, "Bernie" to her friends. She tragically passed away in 1981 due to a distracted driver, but she always instilled a love of books in everyone she knew. She believed in the goodness of people and helping others around her. Reading was her passion and it's also ours.

About Us

Bernie's Book Exchange is not a bookstore, we're a book exchange; we accept book donations of novels, cookbooks, children's & teen books, some theological and self-help as well. We contribute to the community by bringing readers together of all ages, races, religions, etc. that are inspired by a love for reading. We donate goods to local charities and attend events that benefit the community. Located in Aiken, South Carolina, we encourage everyone to take a book and leave a book, nurturing a culture of sharing and learning. Our aim is to inspire the next generation of readers while honoring the memory of Marie Bernadette, whose passion for books started it all. Our motto is: "Today a reader, tomorrow a leader."
